چکیده

D espite the progress that has been made in the field of pulmonary hypertension (PH) [1–3], there is no unifying and globally accepted definition of the condition. The first official haemodynamic definition of PH was proposed at the First World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension which took place 1973 in Geneva, Switzerland as a World Health Organization (WHO)-sponsored meeting [4]. This conference was triggered by the previous epidemic of PH associated with the appetite suppressant aminorex [5]. As such, the focus of that meeting was primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH), as compared to the other forms of PH. After a long and sometimes heated debate the consensus was to define PPH by a mean pulmonary artery pressure (P̄pa) .25 mmHg at rest or .30 mmHg during exercise in the presence of a pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (Ppcw) f15 mmHg.

Pulmonary Hypertension Registry: a 10-Year Experience

Background: Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH), a fatal orphan disease, is defined as increased mean Pulmonary Arterial Pressure (mPAP) above 25 mm/Hg, Pulmonary Capillary Wedge Pressure (PCWP) below 15 mm/Hg, and pulmonary vascular Resistance over 3 Wood Unit (WU). Although Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is a relatively prevalent disease, the idiopathic form (iPAH) is a rare disease with a pre...

Some studies emphasized on the role of genetics in the development of pulmonary hypertension in family members of affected patients. So, in this study we evaluated the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension in first degree family of patients with documented PPH. Methods: In thi...

Proposed new definition of exercise pulmonary hypertension decreases false-positive cases.

However, at the World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension in Dana Point in 2008, this part of the PH definition was abandoned, mainly due to the fa...
